ABOUT
St. Louis, Missouri is a home to roughly 50,000 individuals of Bosnian heritage. The St. Louis Bosnians and their families represent the Bosnian diaspora that was formed as a byproduct of aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina, and consequent ethnic cleansing, and genocide that took place in early 1990’s. Over the last 20+ years Bosnians made St. Louis their home and integrated successfully into U.S. society by among the other things, giving back to the community, contributing to the economy by creating their own businesses and setting down roots in this city, and county. According to the St. Louis City Mayor Francis Slay, the Bosnian community in St. Louis revitalized the entire South St. Louis City area better know as Bevo Mill. The first generation of Bosnians in the U.S. have invested everything to ensure that their children will have better opportunities and lives than they did, by immigrating to an unfamiliar country, culture and language. Bosnian families have passed on their strong work ethic to the next generation resulting in some of the most hard working, well educated students who have been accepted to world renowned universities throughout the nation.
As a token of our support and awareness of our Bosnian heritage, in 2014 we started a project under the name of Run 4 Bosnia, with the aim of helping hardworking students in Bosnia who are less fortunate and cannot fund their education as well as students in St. Louis who cannot cover the expensive cost of education in America. We hope you will join us in the Run 4 Bosnia in an effort to collect funds for scholarships and help us support these students in their pursuit of higher education.
